{within-spiration}

Today's little blog is inspired by Kristi from Etsy!

We fell in love with her photography!

Here are some of our fave's!

A little about Kristi:

"I capture life's little moments through photography. Photography helps me slow down and look for details that I otherwise might miss. I feel most alive when I am creating & sharing things of beauty. I believe Aaron Siskind best describes how I feel about photography perfectly, “Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever... it remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.”

I'm a self-taught photographer; constantly growing and learning. I find inspiration from my children, nature, the simple things, soft colors, natural light, quotes and life. To learn more about my simple life visit me here"

{within kids}

Today we want to chat about an up and coming little shop that we are falling in love with!

Thursday is all about Litte One Boutique! It is the sweetest idea we've set our eyes on in a long while!

They have all kinds of birthday shirts and hats and bibs...and our favorite, the little man tie shirts!

We took some of our favorites and put them together for you...but you must visit the site!

Little One Boutique began in March of 2009.

The creator, owner, designer, mom, genius, and fantastic person behind it all is Dawn Jenkins!
We asked Dawn to fill us in on how this all began....
"So it all started with an idea that popped into my head when looking for a birthday shirt for my little one..for his 1st birthday. There wasnt much of a selection..and the idea just came to me..because I knew what I wanted..just couldnt find it. So I set out to figure out how to do it! I didn't have much experience on sewing at the time.. but I began to remember the basics that my mom had taught me when I was younger."
What started as a creative outlet, bloomed into a full time job that Dawn adores!
From shirts and birthday hats she moved on to bibs and then... then she was hooked!

Dawn's first passion was interior design, she graduated from Louisiana State University with her bachelor in Interior Design.
With that background and her new passion she created her dream job!
Dawn also says:
"I am honored and thankful to be a part of every single one of the memories I am a part of! It is truly a blessing."
Now, the Little One Boutique has expanded into carrying party supplies and cupcake kits and toppers to go along with the shirts, hats, bibs that Dawn makes!
What's important to note here is that Dawn makes every single little hat and shirt and bib! She does not carry anyone else's clothing, but her own. Nice!
Three cheers for moms that are making things happen! We love it!
Good Luck to Dawn and Little One Boutique! This is a company to watch for sure!

Warmly,
~within

{to-sigh-for}

Hello Friends!

Today we want to share a little magic with you! And we think it is "to-sigh-for"....

it is not an "it" ...it's a "She"...actually... a Queen.

Earlier this month we went to go see the Night-Blooming Cereus...

also known as the Queen of the Night.

it is a plant that blooms once a year and only at night...so beautiful!

Here are the photos we took that night...

Below is an excerpt from the Tohono Chul Park Website:

Tohono Chul Park Gallery

She is called the Queen of the Night, La Reina de la Noche, or the Night-Blooming Cereus,
but whatever you call her, every summerPeniocereus greggii is the superstar of the Sonoran Desert .
The Cinderella-like cactus looks like a dead stick most of the year but transforms in the summer by blooming
on one night only, with many plants in an area blooming on the same night. Tohono Chul Park has the largest
public collection of the magical cactus on its grounds and, since 1992, has hosted free “Bloom Nights”
when the public is invited to view the enchanting flowers while their delicate petals unfold.

Bloom Night is a signature event at the Park and is the inspiration for our special art exhibit in
the “Queen’s” honor. Artworks by 22Arizona artists pay homage to the cactus flower’s ephemeral beauty,
capturing her lovely image with photography, printmaking, botanical illustration, painting, drawing, collage,
clay, basketry and fiber art.

Thousands of visitors have attended the Park’s Bloom Nights and many have snapped photographs of the
beautiful cereus flowers. We are inviting people to contribute prints of their favorite Bloom Night photos
for a Community Album displayed in the Gallery. Participants may bring prints from 3½x5” to 8x10” in size to
the Exhibits Department during May. The photographer’s name, phone number, and the year the photo was
taken should be on the back of each print. Photos will not be returned.
We may not be able to use every submitted photo, but will include at least one or two from each contributor.

To find out when Bloom Night 2007 will be called, phone the Special Events recording at
(520) 742-6455 x 915 or check daily atwww.tohonochulpark.org/bloomwatch.html.
To get on the general Park reminder email list or the night-blooming cereus (only) email notification list,
email membership@tohonochulpark.org.

All Hail the Queen !

{wish-me-here}

Today we go on a little trip to Istanbul.

Our dear friend, Dominic Bonuccelli has been travelling the world and shareing his great photographs with us...

today we put his photography to poetry, thanks to a Turkish poet, Orhan Veli Kanik.

I AM LISTENING TO ISTANBUL

I am listening to Istanbul, intent, my eyes closed;
At first there blows a gentle breeze
And the leaves on the trees
Softly flutter or sway;
Out there, far away,
The bells of water carriers incessantly ring;
I am listening to Istanbul, intent, my eyes closed.

I am listening to Istanbul, intent, my eyes closed;
Then suddenly birds fly by,
Flocks of birds, high up, in a hue and cry
While nets are drawn in the fishing grounds
And a woman's feet begin to dabble in the water.
I am listening to Istanbul, intent, my eyes closed.

I am listening to Istanbul, intent, my eyes closed.
The Grand Bazaar is serene and cool,
A hubbub at the hub of the market,
Mosque yards are brimful of pigeons,
At the docks while hammers bang and clang
Spring winds bear the smell of sweat;
I am listening to Istanbul, intent, my eyes closed.

I am listening to Istanbul, intent, my eyes closed;
Still giddy since bygone bacchanals,
A seaside mansion with dingy boathouses is fast asleep,
Amid the din and drone of southern winds, reposed,
I am listening to Istanbul, intent, my eyes closed.

I am listening to Istanbul, intent, my eyes closed.
Now a dainty girl walks by on the sidewalk:
Cusswords, tunes and songs, malapert remarks;
Something falls on the ground out of her hand,
It's a rose I guess.
I am listening to Istanbul, intent, my eyes closed.

I am listening to Istanbul, intent, my eyes closed;
A bird flutters round your skirt;
I know your brow is moist with sweat
And your lips are wet.
A silver moon rises beyond the pine trees:
I can sense it all in your heart's throbbing.
I am listening to Istanbul, intent, my eyes closed.

Orhan Veli Kanik (Translated by Murat Nemet Nejat)

I hope you enjoy the poetry and the lovely photographs. We are travelling as we share this with you....

Happy Thursday to you all.....

ORHAN VELI KANIK (1914-1950)
Orhan Veli Kanik was born in 1914, in Istanbul. He is one of the most important poets in Turkish poetry.
He wrote different poems than the other poets. He used new themes, new feelings in his poems. Also his poems were written in everyday language. Orhan Veli was very successful by examining the inside world of the people with a sense of humor.
