{Arroyo Fantastic}

Not too far from my office, almost a hop skip and a jump, is an amazing furniture store.
Elaine and Stephen are a husband and wife team that have a gift for Mesquite furniture.
Their store: Arroyo Design is a location of inspiration.
I had the pleasure of meeting with them both and oh my goodness, such a nice couple!
We sat in their showroom.. in some of the most delicious chairs I have ever seen.
No cushion necessary, the chair was perfect!
We sat and chatted for a while, as I petted their dog that practically lives in the store.
I didn't want to leave. I took a tour of their workshop and was blown away!
Everything was so neat and tidy! Every single tool had it's location, not even a speck of dust.
Wow. It was a dream for me.
They told me of their shop in New York City and how they came to be in Tucson...and well
I could go on and on, but you can read all about them on their website.
For now I leave you with a taste of their work.

Happy Monday!

[Crypton-ite]

Some of you might have heard about Crypton..it's been around for many years.. but surprisingly

I know that I still meet people that have never even heard of it.

Well, these days it is softer, better, stronger, and the patterns have improved as well.

I've had Crypton on my sofa for 5 years. It still looks fresh and brand new!

What has lived on that sofa? pens, markers, food, juice, coffee, popcorn oil....and all

of it has come right off!

Last weekend my nephew got facepaint on the cushions..it's been sitting there all week.

I'll let you know how it turns out after a cleaning.

A little soap a little water and a brush.

Super simple!

Happy Cleaning!

{B&B Haven}

Last month we took an entire Tuesday and Wednesday off of work and decided to get out of the city!

We went to Madera Canyon (nestled in the Santa Rita Mountains) and stayed in this fantastic little Bed and Breakfast called Chuparosa Inn.

Just the break we needed!

This place was super charming and relaxing!

We were surrounded by birds and creatures of all kinds!

One of my favorite things is to really study the textures of things...

so here's a small sampling of the photos that I took during the vacation...

Beauty truly is everywhere!

I am energized are ready to continue with my projects!

I love Arizona!

Hope you find your inspiration in the little things this week!

[Apple Annies]

A few weeks back I took a Sunday stroll through Apple Annie's Orchard.

Ever have those days when you feel uninspired? Well I have just the fix... go to a local Orchard!

Hop in your car/truck/bike and just GO! You'll get re-energized instantly!

What an amazing day!

Here's a clip from their website....

I was going to start with the apple smoked burgers...but the line was too long,

so I started instead with apple icecream followed by pumpkin icecream... all home made!

so fresh! so delicious!

You could actually PICK your favorite Sunflower! I didn't ... but I really enjoyed swimming in the yellow ocean.

Everything smelled so wonderful! The colors were extremely powerful....the textures...

I wanted to start watercoloring!

I picked my first pumpkin straight from the patch! It's sitting in the conference room as I type.

James picked his first watermelon straight from the vine.

It was definitely a day of firsts!!

So if you felt stuck this week...go out and find an orchard..and if you don't have one near you,

then make a promise to yourself that this weekend you will do something you have Never done!

and bring a friend!

Cheers!

[Kuddos to the Bronx]

Bronx River Art Center (BRAC) is a culturally diverse, multi-arts, non-profit organization that provides a forum for community, artists, and youth to transform creativity into vision.
They are going for a face lift and we're so excited for them!
Check it out!

ronx Times-Reporter, September 2010
BRAC will renovate and move throughout Bronx

By Max Mitchell | web link

For at least the next two years, the Bronx River Arts Council will be bringing new art to the community. Literally.

The renovation of BRAC’s decaying headquarters at 1087 East Tremont Avenue will begin soon, and to ensure that services remain strong, galleries and workshops will be held in different art centers and schools around the borough.

“We’re really going to be out there and doing things in various locations around the Bronx,” said Gail Nathan, executive director of the Bronx River Arts Center. “We thought that was appropriate because it affords us greater exposure to the community, so that when we come back, we’ll have friends from all over that will want to come back with us.”

The project will be starting in September, and construction is estimated at about $7 million. The nearly 100-year-old building frame will remain intact, but everything else will be completely gutted and replaced. Additional work on the building will include a rooftop garden, and officials are looking into putting up solar panels or wind turbines to reduce the building’s energy demand.

While the main purpose of the project is to modernize the 16,000-square-foot facility that houses the 23-year-old non-profit arts center and to help it to run more efficiently, the bold green, black, and white neon graphics that will be stamped across the building from top to bottom as part of the new design will also help to attract more patrons to the galleries and programs.

“It’s striking, so nobody is going to miss us,” Nathan said. “Want to keep waving the flag that we’re here. We feel it’s very important not to go silent, but to make an even bigger boom with this project.”

The loud design was one of 13 projects that recently received special recognition from Mayor Bloomberg and the Public Design Commission of New York as one of the city’s top designs.

During the renovation, which is expected to take at least two years, most of BRAC’s services will be moved into a command center on Boston Road, around the corner from the current location. The temporary facility will be large enough for a digital media lab and is where most of the programming will take place.

For the galleries and classes, the center will work with schools and community centers in the program officials are calling “BRAC on the Block”. The art center holds about five galleries each year, and offers about 40 classes a year for teens and adults.

The renovation, which includes about $1 million in additional design and engineering work, is being funded through Mayor Bloomberg, City Council allocations, Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr., and the city Cultural Affairs Department.

BRAC will also be taking over ownership of the building, which is currently leased from the city.

“We’re finally going to be owners, so this will be stabilizing this institution, which is already stable in the community,” Nathan said. “It really secures our presence here for the next 100 years and beyond.”
