Runway for Research

We are getting INvolved with Runway for Research! Have you heard of it? It is a volunteer organization committed to raising funds to help cure childhood cancer!

The Art Institute of Tucson is teaming up with Tee Up For Tots to produce the Third Annual Runway for Research Fashion Show benefiting the pediatric cancer research unit of The Steele Children's Research Center at UMC.

This year we are aiming to have 60 kids in the show who have, or have had, cancer and we are also Including their amazing siblings!

The theme will revolve around our Runway Stars! So how do we make every single child feel special?! How do we create the space of Hollywood Glamour that is Kid Friendly?!

Idea #1: Popcorn Bar
with all kinds of goodies, and toppings!

Idea #2: Glamorous Hollywood Candy Jewelry
Yum! Kids can make their own or have the designers do it for them! bling!

Idea#3: Walk of fame, Hand Molds
Just like real Hollywood stars! And we can line up the Paparazzi to take their pics!

INstead of Buying the mold, we can Make it!!! Although it might take a bit longer..but it's an option....
Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/3 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 1/3 cup warm water
  • container/mold to fit hands
  • pencil to write in the dough
How to:
  • mix ingredients and add flour until it becomes a stiff dough
  • dust the inside of the mold (so nothing sticks)
  • put mix into mold
  • press hands into mold
  • use pencil to write a message or name or date
  • add beads, jewels, glitter, etc.
  • allow 48 hours for the clay to dry before removing it from the mold
Once dry, the kids can paint it at home!

But if that's too much, then we can just do Paint on board!

{Etsy Loves}

I recently purchased two separate items from Etsy.com, and I have to tell you that I Adore this site! Both purchases were completed beautifully!! Both companies are genious! I cannot wait to work with them again.

The first, Artful Beginnings, creates custom wedding and event invitations and accessories digitally printed on silk, linen and paper. She was so friendly to work with, had great ideas and suggestions, and the finished product was gorgeous!

The second, Close to Your Heart, creates jewelry, pendants, rings, you name it, all out of clay.
I purchased a little rose ring and am Loving it!
Etsy.com is just a treasure chest!!!

Let there be Light

After the previous post I was left inspired by Chandeliers! Doing some light reading with Sunset Magazine, and I came across these two articles:

Eclectic chandelier

For a festive ambience, hang little white string lights from arbors or suspend an outdoor chandelier over a patio table. This one was made by hanging vintage canning jars, beads, and toys from a wagon wheel.

Wire basket and mason jars become outdoor chandelier

With a wire basket, a few jars, and some tea lights and adornment, add a little handmade glow to your garden.

Online Shopping

*sorry the link went bezzzerk*

I'm really liking these candle holders from West Elm. I get magazines and catalogues on a daily basis... I love to see all the new things that are popping out at an atainable cost. These lovely set is $59 EACH! So maybe not in my budget, but super cute!

*sorry the link went bezzzerk*

I also really like these wine bottle chandeliers from Pottery Barn.
They can be yours for $399 each.

I think I'll stick with window shopping for now.....
Happy Tuesday All!
